Digital Literacies in Egypt

‘Go Clean’ is a recycling center located in Egypt that helps raise awareness about the importance of recycling and offers a service that brilliantly helps the environment and the people at the same time. They can be found both on Instagram and on their website : www.gocleaneg.com.

They have simple steps for their followers to go through. First you keep the products that you consume and separate them to plastics, paper and metals. Then you contact them on the number they provided or through WhatsApp. After that they send someone to the address you provide where they weigh the recyclables. People have the option to either give away their recyclables for free or to exchange them for cash or household products. An effortless process that saves the environment and provides people with extra cash.

In addition, Go Clean constantly post and share information about recycling and things that people should avoid to include in the recycling process such as tissue paper, Cigarette buds and and foam. They also share information on the damage and pollution that results from the dangers of plastic pollution and its impact on marine life.

One of the very cool things they do is that they organize beach clean ups during the summer. They post about the location where the clean up will occur so that people can join. This is a beautiful way to get communities to work together and also to raise a sense of responsibility among individuals. It’s also a lovely way to encourage kids to be part of that kind of change and instill these values in them as they will be the ones who take over.

Until now Go Clean have collaborated with so many different platforms and organizations. they’ve collaborated with schools, embassies and a various number of events. They are definitely an important online platform that deserve to be known and are very much needed in the times we live in right now.
